Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three (3) years of purchasing experience.
  • Knowledge of sources of supply, markets and price trends, and the various grades and qualities of a wide variety of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of purchasing rules, regulations, methods, forms purchase orders and accounts payable processes.
  • Ability to research and gather information related to vendors, contracts, equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to negotiate and administer contracts.
  • Ability to use computer databases to research, maintain and update records and files.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated experience with SAP software.

Responsibilities:

  • Under nominal supervision, places purchase orders with approved vendors, or sources new vendors if necessary, for materials, machinery, equipment, tools, parts, and a full spectrum of other supplies or services at assigned site.
  • Receives and reviews a wide variety of requisitions.
  • May support one or more specialized areas requiring an increased depth of knowledge.
  • Interviews vendors to obtain information concerning product/service, price, availability, and delivery date.
  • Estimates value according to knowledge of market price.
  • Reviews bid proposals from vendors and recommends or enters into contracts within limits of delegated authority.
  • Maintains records of purchased items, cost, delivery, performance and inventory, and approves bills for payments within limits of delegated authority.
  • Discusses defects with quality control/inspection personnel to determine source of defect and initiates corrective action.
  • Performs other duties as required.
