Job Purpose

  • To evaluate the reliability of internal controls, identifying areas for improvement and monitoring corrective action and to undertake business assurance monitoring reviews that provide assurance on: Adherence to the setout processes from a transactional perspective within the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of the assurance reviews noted on the annual assurance plan. This will entail achieving the assurance review timelines to meet the overall assurance timelines.
  • Monitor reports in terms of planned vs actual progress of the achievement of the plan and proactively identifying capacity/timing constraints and taking appropriate steps to put the plan back on track.
  • Execute activities in line with client expectations by engaging with the client and relevant internal and external stakeholders during the preplanning stage. Ontime delivery for all assurance reviews
  • Quality of work paper documentation. Quality workpaper documentation is essential to demonstrate that we have appropriately executed our assurance tasks, and to allow an independent person to review our work and give the ability to see what we have tested and that they arrive at the same conclusion we do. As far as possible, the quality of work papers should align to the IIA Quality Standards
  • Quality of exceptions investigation and reporting of outcomes
  • Ability to execute on assurance related instructions accurately
  • Following up on Assurance Providers' (External Audit, Internal Audit, etc.) issues
  • Make recommendations for service improvements by using feedback gathered in training sessions and other engagements with clients
  • To be knowledgeable about all Nedbank's AML and other risk and other internal requirements (Frameworks, Methodologies, Containers and Policies).
  • A solid understanding of the AML and other risk and internal requirements applicable to CIB and the business areas under review is key critical to be able to deliver on the requirements of the assurance role.


 Essential Qualifications
  • NQF Level
  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees


 Preferred Qualification
  • Minimum
  • Diploma in Internal Auditing.


 Preferred
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Degree.


 MinimumExperience Level
  • Minimum
- 6 to 8 years' experience in internal/external auditing, risk management and/or compliance monitoring within the banking industry, specifically corporate and investment banking.


 Preferred
  • Completed internal auditing articles at an External Audit firm.

Type of Exposure

  • Conducting assurance reviews of a high caliber.
  • Analysing reports and work papers to verify the accuracy, completeness and appropriateness.
  • Influencing stakeholders to obtain buyin on control weaknesses identified and provide meaningful discussion and contribution as to how the control environment can be proactively enhanced.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Managing complex situations.
  • Executing assurance reviews that vary in the degree of complexity and ambiguity.
  • Exposure to performing assurance activities in all areas within CIB, often extending into Group functions

Technical / Professional Knowledge

  • Understanding the CIB environment.
  • Internal Auditing.
  • Exposure across various risk disciplines in the CIB environment:
  • Relevant regulatory and industry knowledge, for example, but not limited to:
  • Relevant software and systems knowledge (TeamMate knowledge will be beneficial).
  • Governance, Risk Management (such as Operational Risk Management Frameworks) and Controls.
  • Ethics and Fraud.
  • Report and business writing skills
