We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Center Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure Department at our Johannesburg Head Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of data center infrastructure, ensuring high availability, reliability, and security of critical systems and services housed within.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and Implementation:
    • Design and implement data center infrastructure to meet current and future business needs.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for data center design and operation.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures for data center operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  2. Maintenance and Optimization:
    • Regularly monitor and maintain data center systems to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
    • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all data center equipment.
    • Optimize data center operations to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance performance.
  3. Security and Compliance:
    • Ensure the security of the data center infrastructure, implementing measures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats.
    • Maintain compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including data protection and privacy laws.
    • Conduct regular security audits and assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
  4. High Availability and Reliability:
    • Implement and manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions to ensure the continuity of critical systems and services.
    • Monitor system performance and availability, addressing issues promptly to minimize downtime.
    • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of the data center infrastructure and operations.
  5. Collaboration and Support:
    • Work closely with other IT teams and departments to support the overall IT strategy and business goals.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for data center-related issues.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of data center-related projects, including migrations, upgrades, and expansions.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Data Center Engineer or in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and power/cooling systems.
  • Strong understanding of data center security, high availability, and disaster recovery principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco, CompTIA, VMware) are a plus.
