Retoucher

The primary role of a Retoucher is to grade, manipulate and manage images needed for print or digital output using Photoshop and Capture 1 for grading / processing.


General clean up of images, removing blemishes or marks, neatening hair, clothes and backgrounds, extending images and comping images together are everyday tasks.

The retoucher is also required to follow the specific requests from Art Directors notes (ie. removing creases, adjust ill fitting clothes, adjust colour and intensity on food images, adding shadows or reflections in comped images to make them look realistic, matching grades & treatments).

Deep-etching accurately and working with precise masks, as well as working quickly and accurately under pressure is essential.


It is also the job of the retoucher to maintain the integrity of an image and make sure the quality is correct for the specific output.

Basic print output knowledge is necessary.

The retoucher needs to be able to take direction, as well as use their own discretion, take ownership of the images and be willing to work as part of a Team.

Management of image quality, size, location and file management according to agency protocol is part of the Retouchers job.

Working overtime or on weekends is also expected when necessary.

Minimum Relevant Experience required:
years' experience in retouching
