The Old Mutual Bursary Programme presents an opportunity to shape Africa's narrative with a genuine African success story. Established in 1845 in Cape Town without capital, Old Mutual has evolved into a leading pan-African financial services group present in fourteen countries, guided by the mission of Promoting Mutually Beneficial Futures Every Day.

What the bursary offers

Exceptional South African learners interested in Accounting (Chartered Accounting Stream) can apply for the Old Mutual Bursary Programme.

The programme provides extensive support throughout your university journey till qualification and even beyond into a fulfilling career at Old Mutual. It includes avenues for personal growth, practical experience, networking, and guaranteed employment post-graduation.

What the bursary covers

The bursary includes tuition, study materials, meals, on-campus accommodation, and return flights home (if studying away from your hometown). Financial assistance is provided for the entire duration of your degree, with additional incentives for outstanding academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify:

General:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must be studying at or applying to: Nelson Mandela University, North-West University, Rhodes University, Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, University of Pretoria, University of South Africa, University of the Free State, University of the Western Cape, University of the Witwatersrand.
  • You should be dedicated to joining the Old Mutual CA Training Programme and working for the company post-graduation.

Matric Students Requirements

  • Completion of Matric or current Matric student status.
  • No post-Matric qualification obtained.
  • Age should be under twenty-one.
  • Minimum 70% in Mathematics (excluding Maths Literacy).
  • At least 60% in English HL or 70% in English FAL.
  • Minimum 70% in all other subjects.
  • Commitment to participate in the Old Mutual CA Training Programme and join the company after graduation.

University Students Requirements

  • Age should be under twenty-five.
  • At least 60% in core modules: Financial Accounting, Taxation, Management Accounting, Auditing.
  • Minimum overall average of 60% across all modules.
