The overall purpose of the position:

The purpose of the Draughtsperson position is to assist with draughting work for commercial and utility-scale solar projects.

Reports to:Draughting Manager

Location:Cape Town

Duties & Responsibilities

Summary of Responsibilities:

Technical:

  • Assist with general and detailed mechanical, structural, civil, and electrical (Single Line Diagrams) drawing layouts for utility-scale solar projects.

  • Performing site visits when necessary.

  • Assist with measurements and calculations from drawings to determine equipment quantities for projects.

  • Working closely with the design team to perform general engineering tasks as required.

Administrative/Operational:

  • Ensure drawings are done following the company (and IEC) approved standards, symbols, and methodology.

  • Setting up and populating project-specific Bill of Quantities.

  • Populating cable and label schedules as designed by the Senior Engineer.

  • Perform QC checks on drawings as requested by engineers.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.

  • Assist the Engineering team to populate design reports.

Interpersonal:

  • Establish strong working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate and work well together with others.

  • Ensure that recommendations and suggestions on drawings and other administrative tasks are communicated effectively.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric with post-matric qualifications in technical drawing (Drawing Office Practice).

  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD.

  • At least 5 years of work experience in a draughting position is required.

  • Experience in the Utility Renewable Energy industry and building services industry will be beneficial.

  • Must be highly attentive to detail and able to work under pressure.

  • Flexibility in thinking and operating style to contribute workable solutions in a dynamic work environment and team. 

  • Must be able to solve problems innovatively, willing to share knowledge, and be open to learning from others.

  • Must be fully proficient in English (verbal and written communication).

  • Must be fully computer literate (MS Office Suite and Google App Suite).

  • The ideal candidate will be passionate about the renewable energy industry and will embody respect and responsibility in the full sense of the word while enjoying contributing to a team of highly knowledgeable professionals.
