Job Description

Working closely with Product, Technical Underwriting, Information Technology teams as well as suppliers, partners and/or business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to guide decisions on business and product architecture and implementation on various Policy Administration Systems.
Design, develop and implement an integrated business model that delivers products and services aligned to the strategic goals of the organisation, governance framework, business processes and systems.
Provide insights and findings from analysis into the portfolio to drive improved risk management and underwriting practices. Work closely with Technical Underwriting to implement changes necessary to the underwriting framework to meet strategic goals.

Design, develop and maintain an integrated business model that delivers products and services to meet the changing needs of the customer across the value chain.
  • Design and implementation of product and underwriting solutions that improve operational efficiency and effectiveness through process reengineering, product rationalisation / design, technology and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and manage the Product Systems and Analytics team.
  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of product and underwriting initiatives on third party systems.
  • Shared responsibility for the delivery of strategic product and underwriting initiatives.
  • Design and implementation of automation processes within the underwriting division.
  • Identify critical business issues, areas of improvement and establish transformation plans to drive operational efficiencies across the value chain to improve the product offering, customer experience.
  • Apply architectural principles to business solutions to integrate, adapt and link disconnected processes and systems to high-priority business issues.
  • Work closely with various business areas, internal IT teams and external third-party system providers to ensure fit for purpose product and solution delivery.


Portfolio Analysis and Insights.
  • Deliver in-depth analysis on the insurance portfolio to provide valuable product and underwriting insights that enable informed decision-making and driving profitability.
  • Develop and maintain reporting dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to underwriting, claims, and portfolio health.
  • Provide product and underwriting insight reports and presentations to communicate findings to the product and underwriting team, facilitating strategic decision-making and risk management.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Provide actionable insights to senior management to support strategic decision-making.
  • Develop a framework for predictive analytics that inform future underwriting initiatives.


Drive change methodology and ensure implementation across all projects.
  • Ensure project and change initiatives meet objectives on time and on budget by increasing user adoption and proficiency.
  • Responsible for implementing plans that maximize user adoption and proficiency and minimize resistance by increasing benefit realization, value creation, ROI and the achievement of business results and outcomes.
  • Provide direct support and coaching to all users during transition periods.


Continuous improvement to ensure effective service.
  • Ensure statutory and legislative knowledge is always current in order to resolve customer complaints, to advise the business on corrective solutions to mitigate risks and to improve the customer experience whilst complying with governance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to organisational policies, practices and procedures.
  • Identify solutions to enhance cost effectiveness and increase operational efficiency.


Service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain service, quality and desired outputs across the business process by ensuring compliance to tactical policies, procedures and standards.
  • Establish productive operational relationships with key stakeholders in the various channels and administrative teams.
  • Develop work routines in line with operational plans / schedules in order to manage achievement of service delivery goals.
  • Share knowledge on, and participate in the creation of new standards, control systems and procedures to maintain service delivery.


Ensure cost efficiency through financial and corporate governance.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of fit for purpose budgets.
  • Manage supplier relationships, and budgets associated with projects.


Manage quality people practices.
  • Align own behaviour with the organisation culture and values.
  • Share and transfer product, process and systems knowledge to colleagues.
  • Collaborate and work with the HR and IT teams to deliver required service levels.
  • Actively share information with other team members regarding successes, issues, trends and ideas.


Experience, knowledge & skills required
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent NQF 7 qualification (preferably and not limited to Actuarial, IT, Engineering, Stats and Analytics) is required.
  • 5 - 8 years' experience working in the general insurance industry.
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in process mapping, design and / or re-engineering preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in a pricing, data analytics or similar environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, such as SQL, Excel, EMBLEM, Python, or R.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive mindset and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
