Job SummaryTo oversee all aspects of business relevant to teaching at LAL Cape Town.
To line manage all teachers at LAL Cape Town.
To maintain high standards in respect of the courses provided to LAL students.
To ensure LAL remains at the cutting edge of language course provision in South Africa.
To ensure viable teacher to student ratios in accord with budgets set by the General Management.
To ensure that all Academic Department administrative work is kept up to date and that all teacher administrative work is checked and captured on a weekly basis. This includes but is not limited to management reports, students in school reports and any other reports deemed necessary by management.
To ensure the ongoing training and development of staff.
To regulate and monitor all courses so that they are taught effectively and conform to the description given to the customer when sold through the school and agents brochures.
To plan for each year in terms of staffs allotment of duties. Furthermore, to make statistical projections of student numbers that are entered as bookings.
To plan classes for students on a weekly basis, allocating teachers to classes as necessary. To change students from one class to another where appropriate.
To oversee all aspects of recruitment of temporary teachers for seasonal work for those working in South Africa.
To recruit new permanent staff for the academic department as and when necessary.
To oversee and/or execute all aspects of Academic human resources under instruction of the General Manager terms and conditions, contracts, grievance procedure, appraisals, as well as ensuring internal and legal requirements are adhered to.
To deal with any enquiries or requests of an academic nature from customers (students and agents).
To make any necessary preparation for external validating inspections.
To oversee the implementation of teacher training courses and where appropriate to teach on these.
To teach classes and/or substitute for teachers when required or necessary.
To design, cost-up, and allocate resources to bespoke training programmes for delivery at LAL Cape Town or at clients premises.
To liaise and meet with other members of the management team to formulate and implement new and current policy.
To determine academic policy and broadcast information to staff by means of weekly departmental meetings and teacher staff meetings.
