Job Advert Summary    

Working in the Central Data, Analytics & Data Science team, collaborating closely with Analytics Consultants and Data Engineers, the candidate will design, build and support data pipelines and data assets closely aligned to Business requirements, primarily in SQL on-premise, but also with some solutions in Azure. There is also opportunity to deliver Power BI reporting related to the data assets built.

In collaboration with business users and the Central Data, Analytics & Data Science team, design, develop, test, maintain and support ETL processes, programs and scripts that reflect best practices for data management, error handling, operations logging and alerting, scheduling, job control, etc., whilst adhering to standards, guidelines, quality assurance reviews, testing protocol and Hollard Group standards. Assist with the management and ongoing maintenance and support of the overall ETL architecture by which systems are interconnected and data is passed among systems. Conduct root cause analysis and resolve production problems and data integrity issues and eliminate such through the application of process/system enhancements. Raise critical technical issues to vendors or key stakeholders in a timely manner where they would impact on delivery and quality of services and follow up on the technical resolution of such issues. Validate the data integrity and develop and maintain data validation routines. Key responsibility: Data warehouse development

Outputs required to achieve this accountability:

Design, develop and administrate databases and data structures/models with due consideration to: the potential data queries and system feeds that will be generated from the tables; addition of timestamp and user ID columns as appropriate to identify the user and the time of the row addition or change; the use of standard abbreviations in table and column names; assignment of data types, nullability, and defaults for columns as appropriate. Create database objects such as tables, views, stored procedures, and indices. Create and update database documentation and procedures as appropriate. Key responsibility: General Role Expectations

Outputs required to achieve this accountability:

To design, develop and maintain processes that extract data from transactional systems and other sources at set frequencies, manipulating this data according to set rules, and then loading the data into storage data structures to facilitate reporting and analytics. To design, develop and maintain the different data structures required to optimally structure, store and generally administrate this data depending on the way in which it is to be accessed and consumed for reporting and analytics. To design, develop and enhance reports and data extracts through which the business can consume the data and convert it to insights. Work with the team to support and enhance existing data assets and data pipelines. Provide the additional capacity required in the team to meet all Internal Customer needs, and build a pipeline of talent in the team with the objective to grow the candidate into the role of a Senior ETL Developer over time.

Required Knowledge and Experience    

2 years’ experience in ETL integration with transactional systems / sources and 3 years (can overlap) working in a role close to solving business problems in a complex environment. Experience specifically in relational database design, modelling, implementation and maintenance is an advantage Experience in Python coding (within or outside of ETL development) is an advantage Any experience in the management/analysis of insurance processes is an advantage

Educational Requirements    

Preferred: BCom Informatics, BSc Computer Science, BSc Engineering or related qualification. Minimum: National Diploma in Information Technology or related qualification. Financial qualification/knowledge would be an advantage. BI Certification (e.g. Microsoft MCITP, Kimball Certification, etc.) would be an advantage.
