SRE Engineer

Description

Investec is looking for an SRE Engineer specializing in Observability, where you will play a vital role in enhancing the reliability and performance of our systems. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing observability solutions that provide insights into system behavior and performance, ensuring our services are robust and scalable. The responsibility will also include looking after the platforms that enable the observability and monitoring capability for the group.

Experience, skill and capability

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the following technologies and practices which are key to this role: 
 
• Experience in Site Reliability Engineering across enterprise applications, cloud and SaaS applications.
• Proven experience in implementing and managing observability tools such as Dynatrace, LogicMonitor, SolarWinds, Appman, Splunk or similar.
• Experience in cloud environments such as AWS and Azure.
• Demonstrated experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or Powershell.

The ideal candidate should also display a strong skill set across the below capabilities:

• Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, and tracing methodologies.
• Proficiency in setting up and managing alerting systems to ensure system health and performance.
• Ability to analyse complex systems and develop strategies for improving observability.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and relational skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Understanding of network protocols and security best practices.

Qualifications and experience

• Excellent verbal and written communication and relational skills.
• Minimum of 5 years in a similar technical role.
• Relevant certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) or observability tools are a plus.
