Intro Paragraph

This role is one of the most senior and visible leaders in the ib vogt group, responsible for its project development in South Africa and reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer.

This position is responsible for the performance of the profit center South Africa and must develop and lead the country organization, setting, and executing the regional strategy together with the CCO.
The Development Director (responsible for project development), the Head of PPA (PPA origination), Head of Commercial (project execution & EPC) and Manager Project Finance (project financing) report to the Country Director South Africa.

The country business unit South Africa comprises our development activities in solar PV, wind, BESS and grid infrastructure in South Africa. The regional portfolio strategy is anchored around significant asset ownership and therefore a large proportion of capital shall be allocated.

Your Job

  • Develop the country business strategy in alignment with the company’s overall objectives and build and manage the organization to deliver the strategy.
  • Steer the annual budgeting and forecasting of the region by setting clear strategic goals and ambitions. 
  • Ensure the effective management of the P&L unit to meet financial and operational KPIs and strategic goals, which are set between the business unit and the global CCO. 
  • Oversee our development activities from project origination through project development and commercialization and identify growth opportunities in the region for best in class projects.

  • Ensure best in class power off-take (PPAs) arrangements and non-recourse senior financing are obtained to facilitate profit maximizing projects for sale or ownership.Closely collaborate with the group finance team to implement effective performance and business reviews within the country (budget vs. forecast vs. actual).
  • Closely collaborate with the group investment team to facilitate corporate approvals and capital allocation. 
  • Accountable for compliance with relevant internal and external financial regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability to drive results and achieve goals.
  • Be a Managing Director in the various subsidiaries and SPVs owned by IBV.
Your profile

  • Relevant university degree as a minimum with 10 years experience in a high profile multi-national organization, including circa 8 years leadership and management experience.
  • MBA a plus.
  • Proven track record of building high performing teams and strong leadership capabilities with the ability to inspire, motivate and empower teams to achieve excellence in the renewable sector in South Africa.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills, with the capability to drive profit and loss functions and steer operational details if required.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with advanced capabilities for business and organizational development.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and navigating challenges with agility.
  • Strong understanding of the South African  energy  market dynamics, regulation , competitive landscape, private and public power procurement, project financing and project M&A.
  • Strong communication, intercultural and organizational skills with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good time management and planning skills.
  • Attentive to details as well as being able to understand the broader picture
  • English (native speaker or excellent command).
