Professional Nurses And Nursing Staff

To provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legal requirements, and the policies of the healthcare facility. The Professional Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care while maintaining high standards of clinical practice.

Patient Care:

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care in line with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) scope of practice.
• Conduct patient assessments and develop nursing care plans.
• Administer medication and monitor patient responses.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Promote infection control and health and safety protocols at all times.

Clinical Excellence:

• Ensure adherence to all clinical and operational policies and procedures.
• Assist in medical procedures as required.
• Respond effectively to medical emergencies.
• Maintain a high standard of patient confidentiality and ethical conduct.

Communication and Collaboration:

• Communicate effectively with doctors, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
• Provide emotional support and health education to patients and their families.
• Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and shift handovers.

Administration:

• Ensure proper stock control and ordering of medical supplies.
• Accurately complete and submit all required reports and documentation.
• Participate in audits, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Training and Development:

• Keep up to date with new developments in nursing and healthcare.
• Mentor and guide junior nursing staff and students.
• Participate in ongoing in-service training and professional development programmes.

Minimum Requirements:

• Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Nursing (General, Community, Psychiatry, and Midwifery advantageous).
• Registration: Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Experience: Minimum 2–5 years post-registration nursing experience (hospital or clinic environment preferred).
