The key purpose for this role is to support and manage continuous improvement of plant performance and reliability. By ensuring sound instrumentation and process control and to support the operations, maintenance and problem-solving activities of the operational teams.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide first line support for all C&A breakdowns to all Packaging Department 

• Good customer ethics and interpersonal skills

• Creativity in identifying solutions to process control problems with regards to instruments, PLC's and supervisory system infrastructure

• Analytical problem-solving skills

• Working knowledge of In-touch SCADA and Archestra platform

• Working knowledge of Siemens PLC

• Working knowledge of ZENON

• Working knowledge of industrial networks, Profibus, Device Net, ASI, Ethernet etc.​ High energy levels and a team player 

• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment

• An understanding of OH&S Act, ISO 14001 and Asset CARE 

• Develop and coach (e.g. Trainees, Instrument apprentices and process operators) to help ensure a sustainable skill pipeline for SAB

Running Repairs:

• On request, partake in carrying out running repairs on plant and equipment

• When carrying out repairs, assess the problem and determine a course of action 

• Where required, specialist assistance may be called in. This may include internal resources such as Instrument Technicians, or external resources such as Contractors or Suppliers 

• Where repairs indicate that major work is required, such as re-wiring a motor, this must be transferred to the engineering workshop for attention

• Verify that where running repairs have been carried out, this has addressed the problem 

• Complete the administration tasks relating to any running repairs that the Technician has carried out

• This includes all SAP inputs

Problem Solving:

• Where problems have occurred during routine activities, apply the correct problem-solving approach to resolve 

• Where required, call in additional resources to assist in problem solving or escalate to the Engineering Controller for direction 

• Assist fellow team members to resolve problems on request 

• Take part in FFA's on request

Housekeeping and Safety: 

• Operate in a safe manner at all times, and identify and highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected 

• Carry out work according to the work instructions and adhere to appropriate SAB policies and procedures 

• Carry out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the execution of duties

Minimum Requirements:

• Completed an Instrumentation apprenticeship with trade test certification, 

• preferably working toward an N6​

• Plant/equipment maintenance experience as well as a fault finding

• background

• Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment (2 years)

• Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications

• Process control optimisation to improve quality and efficiency

• Ensure hardware and software standards are adhered to

• Provide technical support for project initiatives

• Support the development of and upgrade preventative maintenance 

• procedures for process control & instrumentation systems

• Train, develop and coach team members

• Maintain process control software integrity and security

• Ensure machine backups are readily available 

• Breakdown analysis and problem solving

• Carry out standby duties
