Senior Controller

Job Function:
To provide expertise and support and to perform the planning and scheduling activities required to ensure the on-time and in-full delivery of managed transport solutions by maintaining a database of suitable sub-contractors, in order to increase quality and turnaround time in alignment with predefined work objectives (as per agreed standard operating procedures.
Key Performance Areas:
- Deliver work activities according to set standards in order to satisfy customers.
- Execute work activities effectively and efficiently in order to maximiser financial performance.
- Attend learning initiatives to improve work quality and enhance own skills.
- Own and live up to the company values.
- Execute own work according to set operating procedures service level agreements.
- Execute work in line with governance and compliance processes.
- Plan and organise own tasks to make sure that performance targets are met and standard operating procedures are adhered to. (daily to 3 months)
- Provide continuous feedback on task delivery to support decision making.
- Communicate to all parties involved regarding any incidents that might affect the on-time and in full delivery of a load.
- Maintain good relationships with transport sub-contracting service providers.
- Resolve any client queries and discrepancies on delivery documentation.
- Compile and generate optimised primary transport plans.
- Supervise Controllers and Assistant Controllers
Qualifications required:
- Minimum Grade 12
- Diploma or studying towards a Logistics and Transportation Diploma would be advantageous.
Skills and experience required:
- Good working knowledge of vehicle planning & scheduling, supervising drivers, briefing and debriefing, enforcing controls and HSSE.
- Up to 5 years of experience in a similar environment, with at least 2 years tactical leadership / specialist experience
- Ability to work in a busy and stressful environment.
- Sound knowledge of tracking systems and Microsoft excel and word.
- Able to measure and monitor performance in terms of trips standards and driver performance.
- Exceptional communication skills internal and external.
- Must be willing and able to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and public holidays on a roster system.
Qualifications:
BCom. in Commerce or Finance, post-graduate degree is desired
Professional Accounting Designation Required
Experience:
- Experience required (minimum/maximum): 5-7 years in Accounting / Finance area at a Management Level or equivalent in Audit;
- Knowledge of IFRS and IAS will be preferred;
- IT knowledge: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products (word; excel; power point), ERP experience;
- Age (minimum / maximum): 30-40;
- Willingness to travel abroad at times;
- Knowledge of taxation within East African region will be an added advantage;
- Time availability; Willingness to work until the job is done;
- LI: Minimum of 21.
