About the Role
The Financial Controller will oversee all financial and accounting operations at our Cape Town Terminals branch. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, compliance, and team leadership. The role ensures the financial health of the branch, delivers accurate financial data for decision-making, and drives strategic financial planning to support the company's broader objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with accounting standards.
- Analyze financial performance, identifying key trends, variances, and business opportunities.
- Deliver management reports and actionable insights to support informed decision-making.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to align financial targets with company goals.
- Develop forecasts and continuously monitor performance against budget, recommending corrective actions where needed.
- Assist in long-term financial planning, providing strategic recommendations for cost control, revenue growth, and profitability.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, accounting standards, and industry-specific laws.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard financial assets and data integrity.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audit cycles and implement required corrective actions.
Cash Flow Management & Treasury
- Oversee cash flow management to maintain optimal liquidity for operations.
- Manage working capital, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory levels.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks effectively.
Process Improvement & Efficiency
- Identify opportunities to enhance financial processes, streamline reporting, and improve operational efficiency.
- Recommend and implement cost-saving initiatives, process improvements, and finance best practices.
- Drive adoption of new technologies or software to optimize financial operations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative environment, ensuring deadlines are met and work is delivered to a high standard.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to direct reports.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA, CA, or other relevant financial certification is a plus.
- 5+ years of financial management experience, including 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience in logistics, shipping, or terminal operations is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and meeting tight deadlines.
