PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To manufacture and reproduce mechanical parts in a safe and efficient manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science or (NQF Level 4)
  • Recognised relevant Trade Qualification or NTC 2 specialised course
  • 3-5 years working experience as an artisan

COMPETENCIES:

  • Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
  • Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
  • Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.
  • Identifies and recommends initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity, and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attends to callouts with regards to mechanical breakdowns.
  • Designs basic mechanical components
  • Diagnoses and repairs faults on equipment and machinery during production/operation.
  • Commissions assembly/machines.
  • Refurbishes/overhauls machines.
  • Maintains, repairs, changes and sets tooling.
  • Interprets technical reports.
  • Compiles feasibility and commissioning reports.
  • Fills in job cards recording work done and parts replaced.
  • Performs routine maintenance on: direct and indirect drives, pipe and lubricating systems, dynamic and static seals in machines and/or equipment, bearings in machines and equipment, heat exchangers and pressure vessels, gearboxes and pumps, Grind tools and drill bits, Mills including all its auxiliaries, Compressors, Pumps, Crushers, Conveyors, Furnaces, spray and flash dryers, converters and acid plant equipment
