Mobii Systems Group Limited is seeking an experienced Live Operations Manager to join our Cape Town office and oversee our global live-streaming operations. This is an
office-based role
requiring daily presence at our Cape Town facility, where you will coordinate the delivery of high-quality live sports and event video distribution to clients worldwide.
As a key member of our operations team, you will manage everything from pre-event planning through live execution, working closely with the Mobii Engineering Team, on-site personnel globally, and our Live Operations Team. This role suits someone who enjoys solving logistical challenges and can coordinate live productions across multiple time zones from our Cape Town operations center.
The Role
- This position is ideal for a seasoned live broadcast professional with proven live video operations experience who can communicate effectively, plan thoroughly, and adapt when circumstances change. You'll be working in the dynamic environment of live sports broadcasting where thoughtful preparation, clear communication, and systematic problem-solving lead to successful broadcasts.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Coordination & Execution
- Manage daily operations for live-streaming sporting events from our Cape Town facility, ensuring smooth acquisition, production, and streaming workflows across global clients
- Serve as the central coordination point during live events, liaising with distributed teams to maintain broadcast quality and continuity
- Oversee multiple simultaneous live productions, working with the team to identify and address issues promptly
Strategic Planning & Documentation
- Develop comprehensive technical plans for each live event, including detailed signal flow documentation, run books, and backup strategies
- Create and maintain operational procedures and best practices that ensure consistency and efficiency across all productions
- Conduct thorough pre-event technical planning sessions with engineering, production, and client teams to anticipate potential challenges and prepare solutions
Cross-Functional Leadership & Communication
- Act as the primary liaison between internal teams (engineering, production, software development) and external stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and execution
- Communicate complex technical situations clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Lead daily operational briefings and post-event debriefs, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement
Remote Team Coordination
- Coordinate geographically distributed teams across video conferencing and messaging platforms, working with on-site personnel, remote operators, and technical resources for high-quality live production
- Provide clear guidance to field teams during evolving situations, ensuring everyone remains focused and aligned on objectives
Technical Problem-Solving
- Troubleshoot and resolve audio, video, and infrastructure issues during live events, escalating appropriately when necessary
- Monitor both cloud-based and hardware infrastructure, addressing issues proactively to maintain our streaming quality standards
- Document all incidents thoroughly with root cause analysis and preventative measures for future events
Innovation & Process Improvement
- Lead initiatives to enhance production workflows, integrating new technologies in hardware, software, and broadcast engineering
- Research and evaluate emerging industry trends and technologies to keep Mobii at the forefront of live event streaming
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency gains in operational workflows
Schedule Management
- Work flexible hours aligned with live event timelines across global time zones, including evenings and weekends when events require
- Provide operational support during live events, with on-call availability for key productions
- Manage operational schedules for the live operations team, ensuring adequate coverage for all planned events
Required Qualifications
Experience & Background
- Minimum 5+ years in live broadcast or streaming operations
with hands-on experience managing live video productions - Proven track record in supervisory or leadership roles within live broadcasting, preferably in sports or large-scale live events
- Demonstrated experience working from broadcast operations centers or master control environments, coordinating multiple live productions simultaneously
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of digital audio/video fundamentals, advanced compression technologies, and distribution formats
- Working knowledge of video transport protocols including SDI, SRT, HLS/DASH
- Familiarity with multicast/unicast video distribution, HDR workflows, and SCTE-35 signaling
- Experience with remote production architectures, cloud-based streaming infrastructure, and hybrid on-premises/cloud workflows
- Understanding of network fundamentals, bandwidth management, and latency optimization for live streaming

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) specifically for live streaming applications
- Background in facility design or operations center optimization for broadcast workflows
- Knowledge of automation and scripting for workflow optimization
- Project management certification or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with broadcast automation systems and master control software
- Experience with AI-powered production tools and synthetic intelligence platforms
- Understanding of sports production workflows, graphics systems, and replay technologies
Work Conditions & Environment
Office-Based Role
- This position requires daily in-office presence at our Cape Town facility to coordinate global live productions

Schedule Flexibility
