Title: Finance Manager / Client Accounting Manager

Location: Remote (South Africa)

Reports to: Co-Founder (U.S.)

About the Role

We are a nimble and growing U.S.-based back office, accounting, and bookkeeping services firm run by two experienced partners. They have built and grown multiple companies in the past and have experience both as corporate CFO and private equity.

We are seeking a Finance Manager / Client Accounting Manager who can take full ownership of client accounting delivery, manage and review the work of our bookkeeper(s), and serve as the day-to-day operational lead for billing, bookkeeping, and month-end close.

This is a high-autonomy, client-facing, and analytical role. You will step into a system that works — and then help make it better.

Responsibilities:

Client Delivery & Month-End

  • Own the monthly and quarterly close process for assigned clients
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, amortization, prepaids, and adjustments
  • Perform and review reconciliations (bank, credit card, AP, AR, intercompany)
  • Prepare clean and accurate financial statements
  • Create and maintain complex Excel-based reports and pivot tables
  • Investigate variances and produce commentary

Billing, AR, and AP Management (Client Operations)

  • Oversee billing and accounts receivable processes on behalf of clients, including preparation, review, and issuance of invoices and subscriptions
  • Oversee accounts payable workflows: process vendor bills, ensure proper coding, verify documentation, prepare payment batches, and maintain up-to-date AP aging schedules.
  • Identify and resolve issues in billing, AR, and AP promptly and autonomously.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for billing- or payables-related issues with clients.

Team Leadership

  • Manage team and review work of South Africa–based bookkeeper(s)
  • Provide feedback, motivation, training, and process clarification
  • Ensure deadlines are met without escalations
  • Build documentation and SOPs

Client Communication

  • Lead client-facing calls to review financials and answer operational accounting questions
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with U.S.-based clients
  • Troubleshoot issues (missing documents, coding clarifications, unusual transactions)
  • Serve as the first line of escalation for clients and internal staff

Continuous Improvement

  • Optimize workflows, templates, and checklists
  • Identify process inefficiencies and bring solutions
  • Assist with onboarding new clients and setting up new accounting environments

Qualifications

  • 5–8+ years accounting experience (bookkeeping + management accounting + month-end close)
  • Strong command of accrual accounting, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Excellent Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, modeling)
  • Experience managing or reviewing other accountants/bookkeepers
  • CA a nice-to-have
  • Professional English communication; comfortable on client calls
  • Experience with QuickBooks preferred
  • Willing to work US hours

Job Type: Full-time
