Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) to join our finance team in a leadership capacity. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in auditing, taxation, fixed-asset management, and financial reporting, preferably with an understanding of the hospitality and property management sectors. This role encompasses financial governance, audit supervision, and strategic reporting to ensure compliance with South African regulations and drive operational decision-making across the group.

Key Areas of Ownership

  1. Group Financial Reporting

  2. Consolidate general ledgers and trial balances from Xero, Sage 300, and iScala into a single Draftworx system or similar.

  3. Drive year-end close: post adjustment journals for banks, VAT, payables, receivables, term loans, IFRS 9 ECL, IFRS 16 leases, valuations, and depreciation
  4. Prepare group financial statements in full IFRS/IAS compliance, including elimination journals, cash-flow workings (shareholder loans, covenant schedules), and disclosures

  5. Draft and defend complex accounting position papers on revenue recognition, financial instruments, business combinations, share-based payments, and more

  6. External Audit Leadership

  7. Plan and manage end-to-end external audit engagements, sample testing coordination, query tracking, status dashboards, and discussion with external auditors.

  8. Produce comprehensive audit working papers, supervise fieldwork, and secure sign-off within covenant deadlines

  9. Prepare financial statement drafts for accuracy, presentation for final approval.

  10. Tax Strategy & Compliance

  11. Prepare SARS submissions: VAT, PAYE, income tax, and provisional tax

  12. Compute current and deferred tax for financial statements and SARS to reconcile to the general ledger
  13. Handle SARS queries and audits
  14. Optimize effective tax rate via loss utilization, s12L incentives, withholding mechanics, and cash-flow timing

  15. Manage and advise on capital gains tax, withholding tax and efficient tax structuring.

  16. Fixed Asset Stewardship

  17. Migrate the fixed asset register from excel to an automated module, embedding controls over additions, disposals, and impairments

  18. Manage depreciation, revaluations, and componentisation in line with IAS 16 and IFRS 13

  19. Lead annual physical verifications, asset tagging, and reconciliation to the general ledger

  20. Finance Systems & Process Improvement

  21. Champion data integrity between source ERPs and consolidation models

  22. Shorten the close calendar; author standard operating procedures and maintain accounting manuals
  23. Mentor Finance Controllers on IFRS nuances and audit readiness

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified CA(SA) with at least 5 years post-articles experience in group reporting or audit
  • Deep command of IFRS, IAS, and companies act, adept at drafting technical memorandums.
  • Proven track record of consolidating entities
  • Hands-on experience with SARS eFiling, , and transfer-pricing regulations
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Strong stakeholder management: auditors, bankers, EXCO, and SARS
