As part of your portfolio as
Senior Manager: USSD Engineering Lead
, you will be responsible to.:

  • To lead the design, development, and operations of the Fintech USSD platform and related interfaces, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability across multiple African markets.
  • Cover the full engineering lifecycle, from the development of USSD menus and programs to platform architecture, GSM gateway integration, and Fintech backend orchestration - enabling customers to securely access wallet, payments, and financial services via GSM networks.
  • Lead platform modernization efforts, foster DevOps culture, and promote agile execution models across all teams while maintaining a strong emphasis on system performance, security, and reliability.
  • Bring deep technical expertise, people leadership skills, and the ability to work across silos, enabling cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, infrastructure, security, and business units.
  • Beyond execution, play a key role in mentoring, influencing strategic platform decisions, and acting as a central point of coordination between architecture, development, infrastructure, security, business and external partner teams. Your contributions will accelerate time-to-market while strengthening operational maturity and platform reliability across Group and OPCO-level initiatives.

The incumbent
must have
the following:

  • Minimum of 4-year tertiary degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Preferred Certifications: Alibaba Cloud Certified Solutions Architect Expert (ACP/ACE) or Developer Associate - with experience in Apsara Stack or Alibaba Public Cloud, or any related cloud certification (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • 8+ years in software engineering preferably with USSD background, with 5+ years in a senior leadership or engineering management role
  • Proven experience in USSD platform engineering and interface development (menu creation, session logic, and API orchestration)
  • Strong programming experience in Java, , Python, or Go, focused on backend and integration services
  • Deep understanding of telecom protocols (SMPP, HTTP/S, SIGTRAN) and GSM gateway integration
  • Strong background in Fintech transaction systems, including wallet, payments, and balance inquiry services
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container registries, and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions)
  • Proficiency in Cosmos DB or PostgreSQL, data replication, and migration strategies
  • Familiarity with private and public cloud services
  • Knowledge of monitoring and APM tools (Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, or Splunk)
  • Demonstrated success in managing distributed teams and complex system landscapes
