C&ORC Business Aligned Specialist

We're looking for a Compliance Officer at the Associate Director level to join our Compliance & Operational Risk Control (C&ORC) team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that UBS South Africa adheres to all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies, with a particular focus on financial crime prevention, investment banking compliance, and business-aligned risk control to :
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to prevent money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes.
• Report any unusual or suspicious activities to the Regional Head of Financial Crime Prevention as well as the Regulator and respond promptly to requests from C&ORC.
• Develop and maintain the AML/KYC governance framework and ensure its implementation across the business.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements relevant to investment banking activities.
• Act as a business divisional C&ORC subject matter expert and support the business in ensuring effective management of consequential risks in their business division.
• Ensure the necessary risk frameworks are appropriately designed and operating effectively across the consequential risk taxonomies.
• Identify, assess, control, measure, monitor, and report compliance risks across the business.
• Provide informed subject matter expertise in respect of political, geographical, and industry-related risks.
• Maintain regular dialogue with regional/divisional C&ORC and FCP stakeholders to ensure consistency in approach globally and cross-divisionally.
• Deliver independent risk assessments and reports.
• Provide business divisional management with controls, tools, training, frameworks, information, and insights required to perform their risk management and supervisory responsibilities.
Your team
You will be part of the team that covers the compliance responsibilities for the IB in South Africa as well as the GWM and AM business with onshore regulatory licenses. Our duties include implementing the C&ORC Framework of UBS, and ensuring compliance, operational, and FCP risks are identified, properly assessed, and managed. You'll play an important role in helping us develop risk mitigating measures, controls, independent challenges, and adequate remediation plans.
Your expertise
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.
• Professional certification in compliance or financial crime prevention is highly desirable.
• 5+ years' experience in compliance, legal, financial crime prevention, regulatory, risk, bank-affiliated and/or operational risk expertise.
• Previous experience in a compliance function.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Analytical skills in the field of AML investigations (especially transactional analysis).
• Communication and negotiation skills in dealing with internal stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical skills, independence, decision-making authority, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to deliver projects and communicate within defined timelines.
• Reliable and resilient in handling challenging situations and conversations.
• Completed relevant industry courses and experience in dealing with the JSE, FSCA, FIC, and other key regulations.
