Communications Officer – Southern Africa

Compassion in World Farming International is a global movement transforming the future of food and farming. We're recruiting for a passionate and skilled Communications Officer to help amplify our voice and impact across Southern Africa.

Role Type: Contract until end of March 2026- Part-time 2 days per week.

Location: South Africa - Remote

Salary: R12,333 per month gross (dependent on skills and experience.)

About The Role

As our Communications Officer, you'll play a key role in amplifying Compassion in World Farming's voice across Southern Africa. You'll help deliver strategic communications that reflect our mission to end factory farming, raising awareness and driving engagement through media relations, digital content, and public campaigns. Working closely with the Head of Southern Africa and the Global Communications Team, you'll adapt global messaging for local relevance and ensure our advocacy work is visible and impactful.

In this varied role, you'll draft and adapt press releases and media materials, create and schedule engaging social media content, and support influencer outreach and digital campaigning. You'll also monitor media coverage, produce internal reports, and contribute to campaign planning and website content.

About You

To succeed as our part-time Communications Officer, you'll need to be a confident and adaptable communicator, with a strong foundation in media, PR, or social media, and a relevant qualification in communications, journalism, or a related field. You'll have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to create compelling content for diverse audiences across platforms. Familiarity with the South African and African media landscape is essential, as is a solid understanding of social media strategy and digital campaigning tools such as Canva, Hootsuite, or Mailchimp.

You'll need to be highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines. Ideally you'll have a genuine interest in animal welfare, sustainability, or food systems, and be sensitive to cultural nuances when tailoring messaging.
