Role Description

This is an on-site contract role for a Sous Chef located in Lanseria. The Sous Chef will be responsible for preparing and cooking dishes, assisting the Head Chef, managing kitchen staff, ensuring food quality and presentation, and maintaining kitchen inventory. The Sous Chef will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in the kitchen.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present dishes according to menu specifications.
  • Ensure all food is prepared and served in a timely manner.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control.
  • Assist in menu planning, costing, and recipe development.
  • Supervise kitchen assistants and junior chefs, providing guidance and training where necessary.
  • Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage inventory to minimize waste.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Support the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager in daily operations and special events.
  • Contribute ideas for new dishes or menu improvements.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Culinary Arts or Professional Cookery (preferred).
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a commercial kitchen or restaurant.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations (e.g., HACCP).
  • Experience in menu development and cost control (advantageous).
  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or similar role is a plus
