My Client, a thriving fuel and convenience group, is seeking a skilled and proactive Head of Finance to manage their Finance operations across 2 clusters. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, driven and organised to maintain responsibility for ensuring the financial health of the organisation. Some inter-provincial travel is required.

The Role

Conducting accurate data analysis and offering advice to management on strategies to maximise profits and securing long-term success for the company, is a key accountability of this role, in addition to managing and mentoring a small Finance team. Business intelligence processes and implementation is crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business intelligence application to improve processes and financial operations
  • Mentoring the finance team, distribution of workload and meeting deadlines
  • Ensuring finance team are cross-trained and have up-to-date work instructions
  • Mentoring and coaching the team on all things statutory, identify knowledge gaps
  • Analytical reporting
  • Monthly Financial & Management reporting to trial balance
  • Providing support to Operational Managers with understanding financials and key indicators/metrics
  • Commentary on monthly financial results, including abnormal items
  • Ensuring month-end close-off process is met within published timeframes
  • Overseeing budget process, reforecasts, consolidations
  • Continue to redefine logic of budget models
  • Balance Sheet budgets for consolidation and cash flow, 3-way forecast
  • Overseeing the calculation of all client rates and contracts in conjunction with operations
  • Annual review of insurance requirements and levels
  • Risk Review as the group grows and moves into new areas
  • Overseeing SARS functions
  • Month-end reporting to managing stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

  • BCom qualification (Business | Accounting), or similar
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Experience leading a finance team
  • Experience in business intelligence processes and implementation
  • Experience in the fuel and energy sector is advantageous
  • Proficient with MYOB EXO, Word and Excel
  • CA/CPA qualified, advantageous
  • Experience liaising, consolidating and filing SARS requirements
  • Strong statutory and management reporting skills
  • Previous experience in a similar position

  • Strong organisation to organise multiple tasks simultaneously
  • A keen eye for detail to verify tasks and documents, as well as identify issues and errors
  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Cope with changing plans or ideas as the situation changes
