Credit Controller

Location: Office-based, Umhlanga, Durban

Supporting the Shoreability Finance Team in the United Kingdom

About the Role

Shoreability is seeking a skilled and dedicated Credit Controller to join our Finance Department, based in our Umhlanga, Durban office. This position plays a key role in supporting our UK-based finance operations, ensuring the effective management of customer accounts and maintaining strong financial controls. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and experienced in managing credit control processes within a dynamic business environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of assigned customer accounts, including the identification and management of overdue balances in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support the resolution of customer disputes (e.g. equipment-related) to facilitate timely payments.
  • Work closely with the Sales Ledger Administration team on tasks including credit balances, unallocated cash, and aged debt management.
  • Process and review credit applications and conduct ongoing credit reviews.
  • Administer the company's Direct Debit scheme and manage payment arrangements where required.
  • Provide assistance across other customer accounts as needed.
  • Contribute to Sales Ledger projects and departmental initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and control.
  • Manage incoming customer communications, including credit card payments and requests for supporting documentation.
  • Support additional financial tasks, such as issuing invoices, managing "on stop" orders, and assisting with monthly statement processing.
  • Provide cross-functional support within the Finance Department when required.
  • Participate in training and development programmes as recommended by management.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Skills and Experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Sound knowledge of finance and credit control principles.
  • Minimum of four years' experience in a credit control or related finance role (preferable).
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational capability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in both South Africa and the United Kingdom.
