Working Hours: Monday to Friday (04h00 – 13h00), alternate Saturdays (04h00 – 10h00)

Simply Fresh Produce is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Health & Food Safety Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible, proactive, and able to support daily food safety, hygiene, and operational tasks. This hands-on role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow procedures, and a solid work ethic

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct early morning facility walkthroughs to check for cleanliness, hygiene, and safety issues
  • Inspect and record temperatures of cold storage units, report any non conformities
  • Conduct internal batching processes and check traceability and hygiene
  • Enforce hygiene compliance, including PPE usage, across the facility
  • Monitor and guide General Assistant in cleaning and food safety related tasks
  • Maintain accurate food safety documentation
  • Inspect general areas (receiving, dispatch, canteen, restrooms, offices) and sign off checklists
  • Ensure cleaning equipment is clean, functional, and stored correctly
  • Final facility checks before shift end, review and sign off all logs, and report issues to Food Safety Officer
  • Assist the Health and Food Safety Officer with audit preparations and required documentation
  • Receive incoming raw materials, conduct quality inspections, and perform batching processes
  • Identify and record any non-conformities and report them promptly to the Food Safety Officer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualification in Food Safety, Food Technology, Consumer Science or related field (advantage).
  • Basic knowledge of HACCP, hygiene standards, and cold chain management.
  • Driving licence (code 10)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify hygiene, quality, and safety issues.
  • Good documentation skills for logs, checklists, and traceability.
  • Able to guide General Assistants and communicate non-compliances clearly.
  • Comfortable working in cold storage areas and performing frequent walkthroughs.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to follow procedures.
  • Able to work early shifts and complete end-of-day checks.
