Role Description

This is a full-time on-site Intermediate/Senior Quantity Surveyor (QS) role located in Kathu. The professional will perform tasks such as project cost estimations, budgeting, preparing tender documents, managing contractor claims, and monitoring project costs and financial performance. Additionally, the role involves providing insights for value engineering, ensuring projects are delivered within financial and time constraints, and assisting in procurement strategies to optimize cost effectiveness. The role requires collaboration with project management teams and direct communication with clients and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the standard forms of construction contracts (NEC, FIDIC, GCC, JBCC) and advise on the application to projects.
  • Compilation drafting, reviewing, and providing inputs to commercial correspondence, claims, and detailed claims including but not limited to counter-claims to subcontractors
  • Understanding the scope of work, specifications, drawings, and other client requirements. Ability to analyse complex information and readily assess the budget for the proposed project and variations to the project.
  • Drafting of back-to-back subcontractor agreements on the first principle of the main project contract documents
  • Prepare detailed (manual material) take-offs from drawings and associated Bills of Quantities and other documentation to acquire fair and equitable tenders/prices for projects.
  • Supplier and subcontractor management including processing payments while ensuring the quantity of materials received is correctly reconciled.
  • Reviewing of contract documents and, sound understanding of contract notice periods and timelines. Advising on a range of commercial and contractual time-barring issues ahead of their arising.
  • Evaluate overall quantities of the project materials, drawings, sizes, specifications, materials of construction, and other related documents for discrepancies.
  • Sound understanding of the Construction Scheduling and Project Programs incl. but not limited to milestones/targets and the relationship to materials, equipment, time, and labour costs and sequencing of priorities.
  • Responsible for overall commercial aspects like Profit & Loss reporting, projections, and billing as well as monitoring costs and reporting to management during project execution.
  • Prepare valuation of completed work for interim payment (IPC) and or Applications for Payment (AFP) certificates, measuring and recording site information for final accounts purposes by the terms, conditions, and obligations of the contract.
  • Tracking the contract's overall budget with all variations and preparing the projections of cash flow including estimating project cost to completion and reporting the management changes.
  • Preparing and agreeing final account(s) for the works, as well as preparation of valuations for final payment certificates and reconciliation statements (Statement of Final Account).
  • A clear understanding of occupational health and safety rules and best practices, quality, and legislative framework in the jurisdiction where the project is being executed.
  • Good knowledge of construction and methodical way of thinking and the ability to resolve problems whenever they arise during the lifecycle of the project.
  • As a team player, carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.
  • Understanding advanced business planning and regulatory issues.
  • Ensure allocation, management, and optimization of resources.
  • Set up systems/procedures to ensure adherence to organizational values.
  • Work-in-progress reporting and ability to provide input to earned value analysis to the senior planners and planning departments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum 2 years experience in quantity surveying for Construction projects
  • Knowledge of project management principles
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Relevant degree or certification in Quantity Surveying or related field
  • Matric Certificate, related business program, or RPL in the field.
  • Problem-solving skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
  • A proven record with contactable references.
  • Ability to work in highly pressurized environment.
