Ophthalmic Assistant

Our client is looking for a passionate, energetic and approachable Ophthalmic Assistant to join their practice in the Somerset West. It would be expected from you to generate important preliminary information to be used by the ophthalmologist, reviews of patient status and perform medical tests. Minimum of 2 – 4 years' experience is required.

You will be responsible for but not limited to:

Document information

Prepare patients for consultation

Educate patients on eye care

Patient management

Patient history and VA's

Preparation for procedures

Patient queries and follow ups

Attend to reporting and electronic medical notes where necessary

Prepping sterile packs

Consent, information & authorisations (working with the reception staff

Provide patient education-based on the diagnosis and treatment plan

Ordering lenses and medical supplies

Perform comprehensive eye examination and vision test according to patient needs and history and type reports and send to service providers

Following the necessary protocol and ensuring equipment is sterile and cleanliness of the practice is adhered to

Arranging compiling and communicate theatre schedule / list to service providers (hospital theatre / Day Cinic / Anaesthetists) and with the patients

Desired Experience & Qualification

Matric

Optometrist or Ophthalmic Assistant qualification

Minimum of 2 – 4 years' experience within a similar environment

Knowledge of PMB submissions would be beneficial as you will be submitting PMB applications

Knowledge of compiling referral letters / reports

Excellent computer skills (MS Office)

Own car essential, travelling between practices in Somerset West & Stellenbosch
