Site Accountant

The site accountant will be responsible to manage the financial function on site through the implementation of financial controls, recording and reporting to ensure controls are maintained in all finance related functions/procedures relating to business on site in area of responsibility to mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine and implement cost accounting procedures and methods to accurately account for costing of products
- Ensure controls are implemented and operating effectively to mitigate the risk of fraud and material misstatements.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting on site performance
- Full understanding of the value chain
- Co-ordinate and participate in monthly stock take for Durban Wheat Mill.
- Ensure that accurate inventory counts are captured on the financial system
- Ensure intercompany loan accounts balance monthly
- Prepare and capture the month-end journals and ensure that month-end closure deadline is met
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
- Monthly reporting on expenses and inefficiencies in the value chain
- Annual budget preparation
- Co-ordinate and participate in annual asset verification
- Ensure adherence to Import stock requirement and document retention
- Review and control customer PODs for validity, customer claims & customer payments
- Review and authorize creditors for payment
- Review and authorize wages hours and overtime calculations
- Review and authorize salary overtime calculations
- Ensure accurate accounting of manufactured products
- Evaluates proposed capital projects and complete capex request
- Provide support to the Site Manager on ad hoc requests and feasibility study
- Track the financial savings of Continuous Improvement Projects
- BCom Accounting Hons.
- SAIPA/CIMA would be an advantage
- Auditing experience 2-3 Desirable
- FMCG at operational level 2-3 years
- Managerial experience 2-3 years
- Excel (pivot tables and formulas)
- ERP system e.g. Microsoft Great plains or equivalent
- People management skills
