The Centre for Proteomic and Genomic Research (CPGR) in Cape Town, supported by DIPLOMICS, is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented interns (x2) to join our Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) team. This internship provides hands-on experience in genomics workflows, laboratory operations, and scientific reporting ideal for recent graduates in molecular biology, biotechnology, or related fields.

Qualifications & Skills required:

· Minimum of BSc Honors or equivalent in molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, or a related field.

· Basic understanding of molecular biology techniques.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Eagerness to learn and collaborate in a laboratory setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample and Reagent Handling
  • Receive, accession, and store biological samples and reagents.
  • Ensure proper storage and communicate receipt to the lab team.
  • Laboratory Analysis Workflows
  • Perform DNA/RNA extraction and quality control.
  • Assist with manual and automated library preparation and QC.
  • Set up sequencing runs and monitor run metrics.
  • Project Work
  • Complete a research or technical project during the internship.
  • Present findings and submit a written report by year-end.
  • Lab Maintenance and Management
  • Support maintenance of sequencing instruments (e.g., washing, power cycling).
  • Conduct general lab upkeep and archive instrument logs.
  • Reporting
  • Contribute to writing QC reports, analytical summaries, and SOPs.
  • Training and Development
  • Participate in training on lab workflows and equipment.
  • Attend internal and external workshops for skill enhancement.
