To provide ERWAT with sound legal advice and opinions, ensure compliance with legislative and statutory requirements, minimize legal risks, manage organisational litigation risk, as well as draft and vet legal agreements and contracts.

 Key Performance Areas

  • Consult with relevant departments to provide a legal opinion as required. Peruse agreements/contracts and provide opinions on acceptability and appropriateness.
  • Draft legal contracts and policy documents and amend when required.
  • Review all contracts or any other documentation within the entity and assess legal implications that need to be escalated to the Executive Management Team.
  • Monitor developments in all legal aspects affecting the organization's operations.
  • Provide strategic directions on new legislation as well as guidelines on the interpretation and implementation of such legislation.
  • Identify high-risk areas from a legal and regulatory perspective.
  • Developing or enhancing internal controls to mitigate identified legal risks.
  • Attend to all legal correspondence.
  • Manage the organisation's intellectual property portfolio by coordinating trademark and domain name registrations and advising on disputes in collaboration with external IP attorneys. 
  • Consolidate statutory compliance reports from line departments to ensure timely and accurate submission in line with regulatory requirements.
    Support Line Manager with the preparation of the annual budget for the department.

Requirements

  • LLB
  • 8 years experience in a legal environment
  • 3 years in a managerial position
  • Admitted attorney in South Africa
