On Call Nurse

The On-Call Nurse will provide professional, compassionate, and efficient nursing care to patients on a call-out basis. This role is not fixed-hour but rather requires the nurse to be available for call-outs as needed, including after-hours, weekends, or public holidays, depending on patient or clinic requirements.

The nurse will be responsible for attending to patient needs in various settings (e.g. home visits, clinics, or medical facilities) and ensuring the highest standard of care and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond promptly to call-outs as scheduled or requested by management or clinical staff.
• Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and administer treatments or medications as prescribed.
• Provide wound care, injections, IV therapy, or other nursing interventions as required.
• Support doctors and other healthcare professionals in diagnostic or treatment procedures when necessary.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely patient documentation and reports.
• Educate patients and families on post-care, medication adherence, and follow-up procedures.
• Ensure proper infection control and safety protocols are followed at all times.
• Maintain readiness for call-outs, including ensuring equipment and supplies are adequately stocked and functional.
• Communicate effectively with the clinical team to coordinate patient care.
• Provide professional representation of the organization during all call-outs.

Requirements:

• Qualifications: Registered Professional Nurse (with current registration with the South African Nursing Council – SANC).
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of post-registration nursing experience (clinical or community nursing preferred).
• Driver's License: Valid driver's license and reliable transport (essential).
• Availability: Must be flexible and available for on-call duties, including after-hours and weekends.
