Secondary Planner

Job Function

To plan inbound and outbound trips by optimally allocating vehicles and trips ensuring the required deliveries will be completed on time and in full as per customer orders and service level agreements

Nature of the Position:

This position is a Fixed Term Contract.

Key Performance Areas

• Schedule and assign trips via the planning tool.
• Manage open orders on the system.
• Ensure the most optimal and least cost plan is achieved.
• Review and adjust tactical plan continuously in line with actual performance and expected outcome.
• Liaise with on-site operations staff to be 100% aware of daily operational activities which may influence planning.
• Maintain efficient and timely communication to customers.
• Continuous monitoring of actual vs. planned performance through all functions.
• Be able to interpret data and use this while planning.
• Crisis management and providing formal feedback on changes to plan and execution.
• Daily, weekly and monthly reporting.
• Understand the transport costs and the impact operational challenges have on these costs.
• Initiate, implement and maintain Continuous Improvement projects.
• Ensure planning tool database is accurate and up to date.

Qualifications Required

• Minimum NQF6 Supply Chain related qualification.

Experience and Skills Required

• At least 2 - 5 years of related experience in a planning environment.
• Bulk commodities exposure advantageous.
• Rail exposure & Shipping understanding advantageous.
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word.
