Position Title: Regional Fundraising Manager
Organisation: Islamic Relief South Africa
Location: Johannesburg
Reports to: Head of Fund Development
Line Management Responsibilities: Community Fundraisers, Junior Community Fundraisers, Major Gifts Fundraisers
Islamic Relief Islamic Relief South Africa (IRSA) is an independently registered NGO affiliated to Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), the world's largest, independent Muslim humanitarian organisation. Islamic Relief's mission is to help the poor and those in need regardless of race, colour, political affiliation, gender or belief to live sustainable, self-reliant lives within safe and caring communities.
Purpose of Department
To develop and implement strategies to increase the funding income of Islamic Relief through a range of fundraising initiatives and through acquisition and retention of donors, volunteers and supporters.
Purpose of Position
This role is to ensure that Islamic Relief's message is disseminated on a grassroots level in the region and create awareness and as a result, instigate and support community activities to raise money for the specified cause.
Optimise sustainable volunteer and supporter led fundraising in assigned region, recruiting and working in partnerships with key volunteers to maximise impact, cost effective delivery and ensuring all activity complies with organisational and legal requirements
Engage locally based staff and volunteers to support delivery of fundraising objectives
Work collaboratively with colleagues in other areas, regions, departments/sections to optimise profitable joint working and deliver shared objectives.
Be the key IR staff point of contact and representative for your assigned region
To develop, implement and manage portfolio of HNWI and CSI clients and associated budgets, contributing towards the achievement of fundraising & field programme objectives and targets.
Key Interfaces
Direct reports include: Major Gifts Fundraiser, Community Fundraisers, Junior Community Fundraisers
Works closely with Head of Fund Development, National Events and Challenges Co-Ordinator, Donor Care and Orphans Co-Ordinator and the wider Fund Development team.
Works closely with Finance, Communications, Programmes teams
Liaises at all levels within the organisation
Scope and Authority :
Manage and lead the regional team with agreed strategy and actions plans.
Working across all teams to ensure the adequate management of fundraising prospects to ensure Islamic Relief is developing a strong base of holistic support from the new and existing groups.
To ensure that fundraising activity is implemented and managed locally to deliver budgets, targets and income in line with national and regional plans and strategies.
Recruit individuals within community who actively fundraise for Islamic Relief
Develops and manages effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including corporate, trusts and other major donors; utilising effective fundraising mechanisms in order to reach an agreed annual income target.
Key Accountabilities
The job holder is accountable for fulfilling his or her roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic values and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect and fair treatment of his/her colleagues and staff. The following are the main responsibilities that the role holder will be accountable for:
Management Lead regional fundraising team. Set clear targets for each team member in accordance with agreed department and organisational strategy. Manage team of staff effectively with clear guidelines, plans and deliverables. Oversee the work of fundraising related work regionally.
Prepare, monitor and evaluate financial targets and expenditure for your area, reporting progress regularly, identifying any potential shortfalls and activity to address. Implement IRSA policies and procedures and ensure staff adhere to these.
Ensure regular feedback is given to team members, issues and concerns highlighted and remedial action is agreed and implemented.
Campaigns & Fundraising
Initiate and co-ordinate campaigns and fundraising activities in the region.
Identify and research new donor markets in the region- strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Raise funds and awareness within community through contact with mosques, schools, businesses, community groups and the general public at large.
Investigate and implement new ways of increasing funds.
Manage a portfolio of HNWI and CSI prospects with the propensity to give large gifts ensuring that all donors receive the highest possible care.
To instigate, maintain and nurture new relationships with South Africa's HNWI and CSI clients developing effective stewardship plans for managing these relationships and to secure and maintain long-term funding.
Identify and develop partnerships with local organisations, mosques and institutions to promote the work of Islamic Relief.
Events Co-ordinate fundraising and promotional events within the region and leverage relationships with mosques, community partners and key donors to sell tickets to events ensuring their success. Be proactive in seeking sponsorship for events. Assist in the delivery of national events and challenges when required. Co-ordinate national events in region when required. Attend, promote & raise funds for Islamic Relief at events organised by other organisations. Networking To help grow the network of key contacts in the region.
Network proactively and work with individuals and groups in the community including individuals, organisations, and educational establishments in support of your objectives, prioritising to optimise income generating potential
Plans Draw up and implement annual plan for the region. Amend and implement annual plan as per change in circumstances. Draw up and implement individual campaign/event plans. Co-ordinate plans with other key personnel and volunteers. To set and monitor budgets for plans. Volunteer Network Ensure a maximum number of volunteers are recruited to support Islamic Relief activities. Manage volunteer database for your area. Train and induct volunteers into Islamic Relief's activities. Co-ordinate and supervise volunteer activities. Service the needs of volunteers both professionally and socially. Reporting Prepare and collate data from campaigns and events. Prepare quarterly, campaign/event and annual reports. Prepare expenses claims. Prepare any other reports as required by management. Monitor and evaluate own performance against targets.
Report regularly on all activity, identifying any risk factors and action to address
Communication
Establish and maintain contacts with donors, volunteers, local community leaders & external organisations. Handle personal contact enquiries. Communicate with management and staff. Communicate performance with Line Manager. Set out clear instructions for staff and volunteers.
Optimise local media and awareness raising opportunities, devise and implement local marketing campaigns in support of local, regional and national departmental initiatives in conjunctions with relevant functions within Communications department
Administration To review and improve internal systems. Maintain an organised and accessible filing and documentation system. Overlook and assist in the bookkeeping and administration. Fulfil any other administrative duties in relation to responsibilities. Manage the mosques, supporter, stakeholder, HNWI databases regionally Other
Any other task as deemed appropriate by line manager in improving the efficiency and performance of Islamic Relief.
To work flexibly according to the demands of the organisation and to perform such other duties, within the competence of the post holder, which may be required, reasonably, from time to time, including work outside of normal hours.

Educational Qualification:
Tertiary qualification/s in relevant & related discipline
Significant voluntary or professional fundraising experience
Skills & Knowledge Required
It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and empathy with the Islamic Values and principles as well as commitment to IRSA's vision and mission.

Understanding of the motivational and management needs of volunteers
Working understanding of the legal requirements affecting fundraising
Broad understanding of fundraising techniques and the specific value, role and techniques utilised within Fundraising activities
Able to work outside an office environment and manage remote relationships
Budgeting and use of KPIs to monitor and manage financial performance
Elements of fundraising feasibility assessment required to make informed decisions on ideas/concepts
Use of Microsoft Office, databases and Internet to deliver business goals
Understanding of equalities and diversity and how it affects this role, the organisation and volunteers/supporters.

Fluent written and spoken English
Willingness to be flexible about hours and location of work in order to accommodate events, functions and work activity. The role requires travel throughout South Africa, late nights and overnight stays.
