The core mission is to architect and embed a resilient, modern security posture across the entire organization. You will move beyond day-to-day operations to create the strategic blueprint that protects critical systems, people, and processes during a period of profound technological change.

This is not a role for a custodian of the old; it's for a builder of the new. Your impact will be measured by your ability to create a secure-by-design culture and build a security architecture that is both robust and agile enough to defend against emerging threats in a hybrid-cloud world.

Performance Objectives for Year One:

  • Deliver the Hybrid Security Blueprint: Within the first 12 months, develop, present, and gain stakeholder approval for a comprehensive, hybrid-cloud security architecture roadmap. This roadmap will incorporate zero-trust principles and serve as the foundational plan for all digital transformation initiatives.
  • Establish Enterprise Security Standards: By the end of month 9, establish and publish a complete set of security reference architectures and patterns for key technology domains (infrastructure, applications, data, identity), leading to a measurable reduction in security design flaws in new projects.
  • Drive Next-Generation Tooling Strategy: Within the first 6 months, lead the strategic evaluation and selection process for the organization's next-generation security toolset (including SIEM, SOAR, EDR), presenting a compelling business case that aligns technology investment with tangible risk reduction.
  • Become the Security Design Authority: Fully integrate into the Change Advisory Board (CAB) process as the lead security design authority within the first 3 months, proactively identifying, evaluating, and mitigating design-level risks on all major technology changes.
  • Modernize Governance Frameworks: Overhaul and formalize the organization's cybersecurity architecture standards and principles within the first year, ensuring full alignment with key regulatory and industry frameworks like POPIA, ISO 27001, and NIST.

Profile for Success:

  • Demonstrated track record of architecting and implementing robust security solutions for complex hybrid environments (cloud and on-premises).
  • Proven experience developing and embedding security reference architectures, patterns, and standards that are adopted by engineering and application teams.
  • Expertise in leading threat modeling exercises and acting as the final security authority within a formal change management and governance process.
  • Deep, practical knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and regulations, particularly ISO 27001, NIST, and POPIA.
  • Minimum of 8 years of dedicated experience in the cybersecurity field, with a significant focus on hands-on architecture and design.
  • Mandatory professional certification: ISO 27001, CRISC, CISSP, or CEH.
  • A Bachelor's Degree, National Diploma in IT, or equivalent relevant qualification.
