You Bring:

• Valid driver's license Essential
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide a team of writers and specialists.
• Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced, growing environment.
• Will be required to travel from time to time (e.g., sporting events, industry-related functions).
• Ability to think independently and make editorial decisions with minimal supervision.
• Solid understanding of SEO principles and how they apply to sports content.
• Basic understanding of HTML and web publishing.
• Experience working with WordPress or similar Content Management Systems.
• Comprehensive knowledge of various sporting codes relevant in South Africa – soccer, rugby, cricket, golf, horse racing, Formula 1, etc. (with a particular emphasis on local football).

A bonus to have:

• Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Marketing or related

What You'll Do For The Brand:

• Lead and manage the Sports Editorial Team (senior specialists, content specialists, and junior specialists).
• Ensure sports editorial content is accurate, newsworthy, and aligned with both business priorities and audience interests.
• Draft and execute sports content strategies for websites, blogs, and Facebook pages.
• Create, commission, and edit compelling written content across multiple sports codes, with a strong focus on South African football.
• Oversee the clipping, editing, and publishing of rich media content for both social platforms and websites.
• Proofread and edit content produced internally as well as from correspondence writers, maintaining the highest editorial standards.
• Maintain a deep understanding of sporting trends globally, while prioritizing locally relevant stories and coverage.
• Create and manage an editorial calendar, ensuring timely publication of content.
• Conduct regular audits of content performance and implement improvements where needed.
• Monitor competitor activity and industry news to identify opportunities for innovative content approaches.
• Review analytics and prepare reports on key metrics, providing insights to inform future strategy.
• Collaborate closely with the SEO/Content Marketing Team and the wider digital marketing function to maximize content reach and effectiveness.
