About the Role
A leading waste management and environmental services company is seeking a proactive Logistics Coordinator to oversee daily logistics operations, including scheduling collections, managing documentation, and ensuring health and safety compliance.
Based in Hazelwood, Pretoria, the role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, values-driven environment focused on sustainability, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Include:
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and executing all logistics-related activities within the waste management division. This includes:
Operational Coordination
- Plan and schedule daily collections of metals, waste, and recyclables from client sites.
- Communicate collection plans and updates to suppliers, site workers, and internal teams.
- Ensure timely follow-up and completion of scheduled collections.
Documentation & Administration
- Collect and submit all relevant documentation (e.g., collection notes, weighbridge slips).
- Maintain accurate records of collections, vehicle inspections, medicals, and site activities.
- Create and manage purchase orders, quotations, and tender documents.
- Assist Finance with month-end processes and client invoicing.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Oversee site safety standards and ensure workers are equipped with appropriate PPE.
- Prepare and maintain client health & safety files.
- Report and manage incidents, accidents, and insurance claims.
- Ensure ISO QMA compliance and support audit preparation.
Resource & Inventory Management
- Manage PPE stock levels and distribution.
- Coordinate medical bookings and license renewals.
- Monitor and report on equipment maintenance needs.
Supplier & Client Engagement
- Negotiate and approve supplier pricing.
- Place and follow up on bookings with external service providers.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and handle queries.
- Follow up on outstanding payments and weight confirmations.
Team Support & HR Coordination
- Evaluate site workers and manage recognition programs.
- Coordinate HR-related tasks such as leave forms, hearings, and payslip distribution.
- Collaborate with site managers to ensure smooth workforce operations.
Key Requirements Include:
- Matric (Grade 12) is essential.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transport.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
in logistics coordination. - Customer service experience is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Skills & Competencies Include:
- Strong organisational and coordination abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
- Computer literacy, especially proficiency in MS Office (Excel) and ERP systems.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and manage documentation efficiently.
- Knowledge of health & safety compliance and ISO QMA standards.
- Experience in inventory management, vehicle inspections, and supplier negotiations.
- Financial acumen for invoicing, purchase orders, and payment follow-ups.
- Adaptability to handle ad-hoc tasks and evolving responsibilities.
