Accountant

CAI is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our office. The position offers a starting salary of R20,000 per month.

About the Role:

You will manage bookkeeping from entry to trial balance, prepare monthly management accounts, and assist with the annual audit. This role includes reviewing paperwork, loading payments, monitoring daily banking, preparing budgets, and handling license applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process banking in STEM (cash distribution software) and Xero (accounting software).
  • Review daily paperwork and STEM journals completed by cash office staff.
  • Process petty cash, sales journals, and supplier journals.
  • Handle month-end journals and reconcile trial balance for management accounts.
  • Prepare monthly profit and loss statements.
  • Draft annual income statement budgets for director sign-off.
  • Calculate and pay turnover rent for landlord every three months.
  • Prepare statutory returns (VAT, EMP, provisional tax, EMP501, WCA).
  • Assist the financial director and auditor during annual audit.
  • Load weekly, monthly, and salary payments for director authorisation.
  • Review and sign off creditor reconciliations.
  • Apply for liquor licenses and ensure compliance.
  • Assist with bi-annual stock counts and prepare inventory reports for review.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required).
  • At least 3 years of accounting or auditing experience.
  • SAIPA or SAICA articles completed (required).
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Xero, Pastel, SAP, VIP (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and time management.
  • Detail oriented and organised.
  • Driver's licence (required).
  • Own vehicle (preferred).
