Aqunion Group, the largest aquaculture company in South Africa is a subsidiary of the JSE listed

Sea Harvest Group, that farms, processes, markets and sells South African Abalone to the South-East Asian market. The business currently comprises four tank-ashore farms, a processing facility,

feed manufacturing company, and sea-based ranching operations, operating across the Overberg

Region and Northern Cape, respectively.

We invite applications for the position of Finance Director, currently available within the Aqunion

Group. The position will be based in the Overberg Region (Hermanus and / or Gansbaai area).

PURPOSE:

To deliver a combination of Financial Leadership, Control, Governance, Reporting and Insights to

internal and external stakeholders with the objective of both protecting the assets of the business

and driving continuous improvement to business performance.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Build, support, lead and manage a Finance team

Ensuring demonstrable governance, control and reporting of financial, commercial and

operational information underpinning the business performance and risks.

  • Manage Systems, Processes and Controls

Use, develop, optimise and/or ensure that all financially related systems, processes and

controls are working to both protect the assets of the company and deliver information and

insights to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Planning and Organisation

Prepare an annual calendar of financial related events needing to be delivered against -

ensuring awareness of the deliverables and dates, sharing same with colleagues and

stakeholders (control the timetable and meet deadlines).

  • Analysis and Reporting

Create and present daily, weekly, monthly, semester and forecasting reports needed by

colleagues and stakeholders to control, operate, optimise and/or change the business where

needed. (identify opportunities for growth and cost reduction)

  • Stock Control

Create and maintain the necessary systems, processes and governance to ensure finance

control over Biological, WIP and Finished Goods Stock is demonstrable.

  • Commercial Control

Create and maintain the necessary systems, processes and governance to ensure that product

pricing, discounting and profitability is controlled and reported on weekly.

  • Cost Control

Support, drive and/or manage costs and expense efficiency ruthlessly, focussing on the

material cost reduction change programme being driven at present.

  • Capex Control

Manage capex expenditure ruthlessly, ensuring all items are presented in demonstrable

business cases delivering appropriate returns.

  • Treasury and Taxation

Manage the treasury function and taxation aspects of the business, in particular the monthly

cash flow demands of the business - providing professional forecasts on cash-flow and

possible needs for shareholder support as well as ensuring tax optimisation/efficiency across

the SH Aqua Group

  • Risk Management

Manage, control and report (internally and to SH Group) on Aqunion Group risks, including

managing and controlling insurance cover and claims, FX Hedging, Inventory and working

capital risks.

  • Group Reporting

Understand and ensure that all Group reporting needs and deliverables are met on time,

satisfying complexes, validity and accuracy principles.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and Professional registration (B Comm CA(SA) / SAICA)
  • Essential experience: 7 years in a senior financial leadership role.
  • Desirable experience: 5 years in senior financial leadership role within FMCG or Agriculture

industry. Understanding of Biological Fair-Value accounting methods and processes.

  • Strategic Orientation: Engage in, develop and drive company strategic options and/or plans,

tracking and monitoring performance on a regular basis, against same.

  • Driving Evolution: Ability to create/develop improved business models and/or performance,

motivating and mobilising colleagues and/or stakeholders to work towards achieving the

improvements.

  • Collaboration: Pro-actively with both internal and external colleagues and stakeholders
  • Communication: Pro-actively with both internal and external colleagues and stakeholders
  • Teamwork: Engage effectively across Finance, Operational, and Head Office teams, while

influencing, guiding, and ascertain financial knowledge and advice where needed.

  • Insights: Developing and reporting on Commercial and Operational insights from an

independent perspective to both assist colleagues and to drive business performance.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
