Retirement Fund Accountant

ROLE OVERVIEW
To provide professional accounting and administrative support to the Portfolio Manager by ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and the timely completion of all financial and audit-related deliverables.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Prepare and maintain monthly management accounts and reconciliations
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial transactions
- Calculate and complete monthly PAYE returns
- Upload bank statements to the administrative system in a timely manner
- Support the Portfolio Manager with any ad hoc accounting and financial reporting requirements
Annual Financial Statements and Audit Support
- Prepare comprehensive audit files, including draft Financial Statements
- Ensure audit deliverables are completed within agreed SLA timelines
- Address and resolve audit, actuarial, and trustee-related queries efficiently
General Office and Administrative Support
- Maintain knowledge and application of accounting policies, systems, and procedures
- Understand the purpose, structure, and policies of the organisation
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments
- Utilise MS Excel and other relevant computer applications (e.g., spreadsheets, email, PowerPoint)
- Operate standard office equipment including photocopiers, printers, and scanners
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) with a minimum of 5 years' accounting experience within a Retirement Administration environment
- A National Diploma or BCom Degree in Accounting (or equivalent qualification) is required
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in an Accounting or similar financial role
- Experience within the Employee Benefits industry will be advantageous

- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and tidiness (measured through desk audits)
