Our Client, a leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) and a key player in the renewable energy sector in Southern Africa, are seeking a Strategic Procurement & Contract Manager who will be responsible for leading all procurement, supply chain, and commercial management activities for utility-scale projects. This role is critical for delivering maximum commercial value and managing risk across the project life-cycle. This position requires a highly experienced leader with a strong track record in contract management (FIDIC, NEC, EPC), cost control, and project commercial assurance within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the overall company procurement strategy and supply chain management for all projects.
- Lead the procurement process for all major equipment (e.g., Solar PV, Wind Turbine Generators, BESS, Inverters, HV/MV/LV equipment) and all EPC/O&M contracts.
- Manage and maintain strong commercial relationships with key suppliers, contractors, and partners.
- Oversee and lead the negotiation of major contracts (e.g., EPC, O&M, supply contracts), ensuring optimal terms and risk allocation.
- Provide expert commercial advice and technical support to internal teams (e.g., Development, Project Management, Finance) on contract structure and execution.
- Implement and manage contract control procedures, including managing claims, variations, and disputes.
- Lead all project commercial assurance activities, ensuring alignment with project budgets and financial close requirements.
- Develop and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and best practices, ensuring governance and compliance.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Law, or Supply Chain Management).
- Minimum 10 years' experience in procurement, commercial, or contract management roles for infrastructure or energy projects, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in contract management (FIDIC, NEC, EPC), cost control, and project commercial assurance.
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure or construction projects is essential.
- Familiarity with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) processes and contracts.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, and grid integration is highly beneficial.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring capabilities.
- A high level of diligence, determination, resilience, and agility, with a passion for the Renewable Energy sector.
