About the Role

As a
Country Accountant
, you'll manage end-to-end accounting, month-end close, financial controls, and statutory compliance for India and South Africa, while being based in Cape Town. This is an individual contributor role.

You will focus on:

• Managing complete accounting processes for India & South Africa
• Driving accurate and timely month-end close
• Ensuring strong financial controls and compliance with local regulations
• Coordinating with external accountants and internal teams
• Supporting audits and statutory filings
• Partnering with global Finance to maintain consistency and best practices
• Owning financial integrity for India and South Africa while working closely with the global Finance team

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Month-End Close

• Maintain accurate books of accounts for India and South Africa
• Review bookkeeping entries from the Finance Assistant and ensure proper coding/documentation
• Prepare and post month-end journals (accruals, prepayments, provisions, payroll, FX revaluations)
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts (AP, AR, advances, deposits, bank, tax accounts)
• Lead the month-end close for assigned countries
• Prepare monthly financials, management reports, and variance analysis
• Ensure compliance with internal timelines and close calendars
• Prepare cash flow statements and perform cash flow analysis to monitor liquidity and support business planning

Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight

• Review AP/AR aging, follow up on overdue items, and oversee collections
• Verify vendor onboarding, contracts, and tax treatment
• Ensure payment runs are accurate and within control requirements

Compliance & Statutory Coordination

India:

• GST (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B), TDS, payroll statutory deductions
• ROC filings, income tax assessments, notices, reconciliations
• Statutory audit lead for India

South Africa:

• VAT, PAYE/UIF/SDL, year-end financial statements
• SARS communication and compliance follow-ups
• Independent Review lead for South Africa
• Coordinate with external compliance partners and auditors

Controls, Processes & Audits

• Ensure compliance with internal SOPs and implement key control checks
• Identify process improvements for multi-country finance operations
• Prepare audit schedules and manage statutory/internal audit queries

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Collaborate with Operations, Customer Support, and Sales for documentation, billing, and compliance inputs
• Support the global finance team on consolidation, reporting, and ad-hoc tasks

What You'll Need

Skills & Competencies

• Strong accounting knowledge (AS / IFRS)
• Strong ownership and ability to manage country-level responsibilities independently
• Excellent month-end and reconciliation skills
• Experience working with auditors and external vendors
• Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving ability
• Proficiency in Excel; Xero experience preferred
• Ability to work across time zones and handle multi-country workflows

Experience & Education

• 4–7 years of accounting experience; multi-entity or multi-country experience preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or equivalent
• Professional qualifications preferred: ACCA, CMA, CPA, CA(SA)
• Prior experience handling India or South Africa compliance is a strong advantage
• Experience working with global teams and cloud-based systems is beneficial
• Will manage time-zone overlaps between India and South Africa
