AskMandla is a Stellenbosch-based fintech startup helping families employ domestic workers legally and with dignity.

We simplify compliance for households through employment contracts, payslips, UIF registration and payroll management, all managed through WhatsApp.

We are looking for a Bookkeeper to join our growing team full-time at our Stellenbosch office. You will be responsible for managing our day-to-day financial operations, payroll administration and compliance reporting.

Role Description

The Bookkeeper will oversee all financial processes across the business, ensuring accurate accounting records, timely payroll, and full statutory compliance.

This role is hands-on and detail-oriented, requiring someone comfortable working in a small, fast-moving environment.

You will be the key link between operations and finance, maintaining accuracy, transparency and structure in all financial activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will manage bookkeeping in Xero, including bank reconciliations, journals and monthly reports.
  • You will handle accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • You will support payroll, including UIF, PAYE and deduction calculations.
  • You will process salary disbursements and track employer funding balances.
  • You will submit UIF declarations using uFiling and manage employer accounts.
  • You will prepare and file SARS submissions via eFiling, such as EMP201, EMP501 and VAT, where applicable.
  • You will maintain organised digital records of invoices, payments and supporting documentation.
  • You will assist with monthly management reporting and support financial audits.
  • You will identify and suggest improvements to streamline finance operations.

Requirements

  • You must have at least three years of bookkeeping experience, ideally in a small business or payroll-focused environment.
  • You must be proficient in Xero, SimplePay and Excel or Google Sheets.
  • You must have proven experience with SARS eFiling and UIF uFiling.
  • You must have a sound understanding of UIF, PAYE and payroll legislation.
  • You should have strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • You should have excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • You should be reliable, self-motivated and comfortable managing multiple priorities.

Qualifications

A relevant qualification in Bookkeeping, Accounting or Finance at a minimum of NQF Level 4 is required.

A diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration will be an advantage.

Practical experience with Xero, eFiling and uFiling is essential.

Certification or training in Payroll Administration or membership with a recognised professional body such as ICB, SAIPA or SAIBA will be beneficial.
