The Financial services division of Pepkor will be launching their first bank. We are looking for a detail-oriented, strategic thinker to join our Finance team and act as the guardian of our regulatory compliance.

The Role

As the
Regulatory Reporting Manager
, you will hold the critical responsibility of ensuring the Bank remains fully compliant with the
Prudential Authority (PA)
and
SARB
reporting requirements. You will bridge the gap between complex data, financial accounting, and the strict legal frameworks governing the South African banking sector (Basel III/IV, The Banks Act).

Key Responsibilities

1. Regulatory Submissions & Compliance

  • Manage the end-to-end production and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual
    BA Returns
    (BA 100, 200, 300, 700 series) to the Prudential Authority.
  • Manage interactions with the Prudential Authority regards the bank's regulatory reporting

2. Data Integrity & Variance Analysis

  • Perform deep-dive variance analysis on month-on-month data to explain fluctuations to the CFO and ExCo before submission.
  • Reconcile regulatory data back to the General Ledger (GL) to ensure the "one version of the truth" principle.
  • Oversee the
    DI (Data Integrity)
    audit process, serving as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors during regulatory reviews.

3. Policy & Advisory

  • Monitor gazetted changes from the SARB/PA and assess the impact of new directives (e.g., Basel IV reforms) on the bank's capital and reporting systems.
  • Advise the business on "Capital Optimization"—helping deal teams understand the regulatory cost of new products or loan structures.

4. Automation & Systems

  • Lead the migration of manual Excel-based processes to automated regulatory solutions

Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualification

  • Essential:
    BCom (Hons) in Accounting or Finance.
  • Preferred:
    CA(SA)
    (Chartered Accountant South Africa) or CIMA/ACCA with relevant banking experience.

Experience

  • Minimum
    5-7 years
    of experience in a Finance or Risk function within a Bank.
  • At least
    3 years
    specifically dedicated to Regulatory Reporting (BA Returns).
  • Deep knowledge of the
    Banks Act (Act 94 of 1990)
    and the Regulations relating to Banks.
  • Solid understanding of
    IFRS 9
    and its impact on regulatory capital.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel (VBA/Macros/Power Pivot) – non-negotiable.
  • Experience with
    AxiomSL
    ,
    Moody's Analytics
    , or similar RegTech platforms.
  • SQL knowledge (ability to query databases directly) is a strong plus.

    Ability to handle the high-pressure "Month-End" cycle and strict regulatory deadlines.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    Confidence to present complex regulatory issues to the CFO and answer queries from the SARB analysts.
  • Flexibility: This individual must be flexible in their thinking patterns and manage their workload independently as they will be joining a start-up.
