Harvesting Data Collector

Location: COEGA Port Elizabeth

**Salary**: R20,000 per month, plus company vehicle, fuel, and cell phone allowance.

Company Overview:
Coega Biomass Centre (CBC) is an industrial-scale pellet factory located in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), dedicated to producing sustainable wood pellets and wood chips for both South African and European markets. Our production commenced in March 2024, utilizing wood sourced from alien invasive trees, including pine, eucalyptus, and acacia. Committed to sustainability, all feedstock is 100% FSC certified, and we actively manage land rehabilitation on our harvesting sites.

Job Deliverables:
The Harvesting Data Collector will collect harvesting-related data by performing in-field, time, production, and cost studies. The collected data includes, amongst others (not an exhaustive list): production volumes, feedstock quality, staff complement, hours worked (machines and personnel), reason for machine breakdowns and/or downtime, fuel use, truck loading time, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

- Collect and monitor harvesting data at various sites, including production volumes and feedstock quality.
- Track harvesting hours worked by both machines and personnel, ensuring all data is accurate.
- Identify causes of machine breakdowns and operational downtime.
- Assess fuel usage for harvesting equipment and establish truck loading times from harvest sites to the plant.
- Collaborate with the Feedstock Forester to enhance feedstock quality, promptly informing the pellet factory of potential lower-quality loads.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Must have Matric or higher certification.
- Valid Driver’s license
- Able to accurately collect a complete and trustworthy set of data
- Strong ability to collect and report accurate and trustworthy data independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and teamwork.
- Ability to build amicable relationships with harvesting teams to facilitate data sharing.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Previous experience in data collection within the agricultural or forestry sector is advantageous.
