Industrial Field Technician

**Introduction**:
Our client in Cape Town is looking for an Industrial Field Technician to join their team to install, repair, and service all industrial laundry & catering equipment.

**Product range and brands**:
Equipment/Machinery includes but is not limited to industrial washing machines, tumble dryers, ironing equipment, and a range of industrial catering equipment. The product range includes leading international brands namely SPEED QUEEN, GIBAU, TULLIS, JENSEN, IPSO, and FAGOR.

**Core Functions**:

- Install and provide user/operator training on industrial laundry and catering equipment.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on industrial laundry and catering equipment.
- Prepare repair quotations relating to industrial laundry and catering equipment.
- Carry out routine maintenance on industrial laundry and catering equipment

**Reporting Structure**:

- Daily reporting to the service controller/service supervisor/manager with respect to completed jobs, jobs in progress, and repair quotations required.
- Reports directly to the Director/Branch manager based in Cape Town

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Must be qualified in a trade - Electrician/Fitter/Millwright or similar field and have a minimum of 3 years working experience in a trade-related position.
- Alternatively, have more than 5 years of working experience as a laundry or catering equipment installation/repair technician.
- Must have a Matric Certificate.
- Ideally have a relevant Tertiary certificate/diploma.
- Demonstrated the ability to be a fast learner with a “make it happen attitude”.
- Must be able to work both independently and within a team environment. **Must possess good verbal and written communication skills. Must have a valid driver’s license.**

**Hours of Work and Package**:

- Working hours 7h30 to 16h30 Monday to Friday (45 hrs per week).
- From time to time it might be required to work overtime and provide weekend standby.
- Overtime is paid at a rate of 1 ½ times thenormal rate on weekdays 7 Saturdays and 2 x thenormal rate on Sundays & public holidays.
- Salary - negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
- Company vehicle is provided for traveling to work and home and for the use of all business purposes. (Company bakkie/Caddy provided with limitations on private use)

**DETAILED FUNCTIONS**:
**Installations - a technician is required to**:

- Secure equipment/machines to the floor - in some cases concrete work is required.
- Connect equipment/machines electrically to - 230 Volt and 400 Volt. (Mostly 400V) - electrical skills are required.
- Connect equipment/machines to the water supply and to the main drain system
- Basic plumbing skills are required.
- Connect equipment/machines to the air extraction system.
- Connect equipment/machines to gas or steam supply (rarely).
- Program and set up equipment/machines based on customers’ needs and production requirements.
- Provide training on the use, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
- Complete and submit all relevant paperwork i.e. training register, signed invoice, job sheets, etc.

**Fault finding, diagnosing**, **and repairs - a technician is required**:

- To identify electrical/electronic faults through a process of fault finding. The ability to read wiring diagrams is therefore essential and most of the equipment’s circuitry is basic. Equipment and machines are also fitted with diagnostic micro-processors which give error alarms and assist with the faultfinding process.
- To replace faulty electrical/electronic components/parts once the problem/s has been identified. Parts such as motors, timers, micro-processors, inlet valves, drain valves, door switches, micro-switches, contactors, elements, and transformers are examples of parts that fail on industrial laundry and catering equipment.
- To prepare and submit repair quotations i.e. labor and parts involved and required to repair equipment/machines.
- To identify when bearings need replacement. (Mechanical requirement) **To replace bearings when needed. This area requires extensive training. (Mechanical requirement)**:

- To repair gas and steam-heated equipment. This is not essential but will be an added advantage. A small range of equipment in the field makes use of gas and/or steam as a heating source.

**Servicing of the equipment - a technician is required**:

- To inspect and test components and parts for correct operation.
- To test all safety devices on the machine.
- To clean, lubricate and assess the condition of working parts of equipment and machines.
