Portfolio Management Specialist

The position is a FIxed Term Contract for 3 (Three) Years.

Reporting to the Head Climate & Environmental Finance, the role of the Portfolio Management Specialist will be the management of the health and risk of the Climate and Environmental Finance Unit investment portfolios with focus on the Green Fund.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Technical outputs**.

1. In collaboration with **Head**: Climate & Environmental Finance **provide active management of the Green Fund and other related Climate & Environment Investment Portfolios to ensure sustainability and to minimise non-performance and impairments with particular focus on:
a. Timeous preparation and presentation of portfolio reports using appropriate ratios and techniques to inform Management of the performance of the Green Fund portfolio and the risk implications thereof;
b. Early identification of loans and/or investments at risk of defaulting and recommendation of actions plans to fix such loans and/or investments; and

c. Ensuring accuracy and integrity of loan and investment MIS data so as to ensure proper portfolio monitoring and reporting;
d. Ensuring quality and timeous quarterly Green Fund reporting with assistance from the Fund Specialist

e. Ensuring Investment portfolio reporting is adhered to in collaboration with Climate Change Specialist, Climate finance Specialists and Fund Specialist.

Provide portfolio support for the overall Climate and Environmental Finance unit portfolio. This will include submission of periodic progress reports, ad-hoc requests and other reporting and monitoring requirements timeously that adheres to the specific contractual arrangements.

2. On-going comparison of the portfolio performance against planned performance and the implications thereof;
3. On-going monitoring of loan workout activities including loan restructuring, asset liquidation and all other negotiations with clients;
4. On-going monitoring of instruments and their related actives offered by the Climate & Environmental Finance Unit

5. In collaboration with DBSA Group Risk and Finance Division undertakes periodic valuation of the Green Funds’ Asset Portfolio

6. In collaboration with DBSA Group Risk and Finance Division provide portfolio reporting on the Green Fund and other related Climate & Environment Investment Portfolios

7. Involved in the development of log frames (climate, financial, gender, development impact and other relevant indictors etc) and theory of change for new projects and on-going monitoring of existing log frames for existing project under by the Climate & Environmental Finance Unit

8. Development of a Climate & Environmental Finance portfolio dashboard/monitoring tool to ensure ongoing monitoring of the portfolio which will inform periodic reporting to internal and external stakeholders

9. Assess and appraise the climate risk and impact of PPD potential investments (pipeline) by identifying how it aligns to the bank’s “net zero” pathway.

10. Input into the development and improvement of instruments and tools to assess net zero alignment of project proposals

1. Quality of input into Portfolio Reports for all internal and external stakeholders

2. Ongoing monitoring of all reporting requirements for the Green Fund and other related Climate & Environment Investment Portfolios

3. Timeously provides required input into Portfolio Reports on the Green Fund and other related Climate & Environment Investment Portfolios

4. Timeously identifies and recommends actions on loans and recoverable grants and/or investments at risk of default

5. Effective and Active management of the Green Fund’s Asset Portfolio and other related Climate & Environment Investment Portfolios

6. Timeously update the portfolio dashboard/monitoring tool and effectively coordinate required inputs from the Climate & Environment Finance Unit

7. Quality of input into project/programme log frames

8. Quality and number of assessments of alignment of PPD pipeline to “net zero” strategy

9. Quality inputs into development and improvement of instruments and tools to assess net zero alignment of project proposals

**Expertise & Technical Competencies**:
Minimum Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Economics, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or Development/Sustainability Studies.

2. Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar role or credit risk management role

Advantageous:
1. Previous portfolio management experience in Green or Climate related investments and some exposure to climate risk assessment will be an advantage
