Head of Platform

**The Role** We are currently recruiting a Head of Data Platform for the Johannesburg and Cape Town regions. The role of the Head of Data Platform provides strategic leadership to the Data Engineering developers, data architects, data analysts and your product partners. Hands on development and mentorship to Product Development team members on large and complex projects for the Bank in the realms of Data Platform & Analytics. You understand the business imperatives tied to this strategic capability. You provide technology leadership and are the technical expert on strategic projects, drive the release strategy and guide the delivery of projects and BAU activity aligned to business strategy. You maintain awareness of dependencies between projects and delivery vision, while ensuring engineering excellence. You build the strategy for your teams to architect, design and deliver the next wave of enterprise FinTech innovation. **Skills and Experience** - 5+ years of experience in managing a group of team members and also work cross functionally and cross geographic locations in delivering technology solutions around data. - Extensive hands on design/coding experience/skills using all the latest technologies using for managing data platforms, machine learning & analytics. - Experience with AWS(Lambda, Kinesis, S3) or other Cloud Engineering Technologies. - Service Oriented Architecture. - Big data and cloud computing technologies - Have a successful track record of leading architecture work for large scale projects that represent broad strategic initiatives meeting quantifiable business objectives and resulting in tangible impact for the organisation. - Demonstrated expertise in leveraging agile and other development methodologies. **Key Accountabilities** - Drives the architecture for key cross team / cross product development projects (via architecture/design documents and developing code key modules). - Establishes software development patterns and best practices via examples and shipping code. - Ensures that all relevant project teams follow a common set of principles and patterns and utilize a standard set of technology frameworks and libraries. - Provides leadership across the architecture community to ensure solutions are built in alignment with platform principles and standards. - Mentors and builds world-class high-performing engineering teams. - Helps increase execution velocity. - Develops architectures that are inherently secure, robust, scalable, modular, API-centric and global. - Influences technology selection for the enterprise. - Defines deployment topology by working with peers across the technology organization. - Optimizes use of the Banks Platforms & Solutions. - Demonstrates thought leadership through presentations and teaching across the business. **Personality and Attributes** - Strong at technical goal setting for a project with - actionable success metrics. Keep up with the technology development in the relate+d areas in the industry, which could be leveraged to enhance current architectures and build durable new ones. - Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate architectural issues and concepts to multiple organization levels and executive management. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline required; advanced degree is a plus. - Strong leadership and team player. - Strong on driving for results and self-motivated.
