Occupational Health and Safety Officer

**About the Role**
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System in compliance with national legislation and international best practices.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and ensure effective hazard identification, mitigation, and monitoring across smelting, refining, and mineral processing plants.
- Lead health and safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations; prepare detailed reports and drive corrective action implementation.
- Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), and related industry regulations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to safety officers and operational teams to foster a proactive safety culture.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, unions, and other stakeholders on occupational health and safety matters.
- Oversee occupational hygiene monitoring programs and coordinate with occupational medical practitioners where required.
**Minimum Requirements**
- A **Bachelor’s degree or higher** in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- **Minimum of 10 years’ experience** in occupational health and safety management within **smelting, refining, or mineral processing** operations.
- In-depth understanding of metallurgical processes, associated hazards, and safety control measures.
- Strong knowledge of **MHSA, OHS Act, ISO 45001**, and related standards.
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, incident investigation, and emergency response planning.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent) will be an advantage.
