Sanlam Business Intelligence (SBI) provides data managements, descriptive and predictive analytics services to the Sanlam Retail Affluent (SRA) cluster. The Management Information System (MIS) is a business facing team that provides sales and intermediary information to our SanlamConnect management and executive teams.
Role Description

The Heritage BI team (HBI) is organised within SBI and focusses on the management of our existing data warehouse solutions.
Your role as a Senior Analyst Programmer, within HBI, centers around the dynamic development of COBOL programs and DB2 SQL queries on the mainframe. Your active involvement includes collaborating closely with business analysts to shape requirements into efficient code, constructing robust test cases, conducting thorough unit testing, and meticulously maintaining system documentation. Furthermore, your leadership will shine as you guide the team in designing impactful programs, oversee rigorous code reviews, and drive the delivery of top-notch software solutions tailored to meet our business imperatives.
What will you do?
As a Senior Analyst Programmer in the Heritage BI team, your role will encompass:
Analyzing incoming change requests for MIS systems and their interfaces with other systems.
Providing recommendations and estimating costs and man-days for implementing proposed changes.
Understand how programmes are sequenced, integrated and comfortable to manage the interdependencies thereof
Documenting functional and technical specifications for required modifications to MIS systems, including interpretation of specifications and data models.
Maintaining, monitoring and enhancing existing programs in alignment with change requests.
Analysing stored procedures to ensure optimal execution/ running as part of Mainframe online time
Developing new programs based on specified change requirements.
Ensuring the correctness of your programs through thorough testing.
Conducting interface testing with other systems.
Identifying and resolving program bugs through effective debugging.
Managing the implementation of changes into the production environment, following the established change management process.
Documenting all implemented program changes comprehensively.
Updating documentation related to data models.
Sharing documentation as needed through designated channels.
Providing user support and troubleshooting for supported MIS systems on a functional level.
Delivering hands-on training on your system and the implemented changes.
Being available for standby support during weekends and at year-end.
Addressing and rectifying errors and bugs in the production environment.
Participating in and assisting with the Disaster Recovery Process.
Ensuring team adherence to software quality assurance processes, which includes activities such as code reviews, system integration, and user acceptance testing. What will make you successful in this role?

**Qualifications**:
Grade 12
A tertiary qualification will be advantageous

**Experience**:
5+ years IT experience
Must have strong demonstrable Cobol and DB2 skills. Strong database background on DB2, using it as source and target of data. Develop SQL DDLs to validate testing of the completeness and accuracy of data during data loads and testing
Must have strong demonstrable JCL knowledge and experience
Must have experience (at least 2 years) working in Linux and IBM SQL environment
Solid understanding of time-sharing Option/Extensions. We use this to manage our testing processes. And to monitor runs and MIPS usage
Solid understanding of CA7-scheduling and procedures
